Neumeister Pinot Noir Steiermark | Styria, Austria
Styria doesn't shout. It whispers. And Weingut Neumeister has mastered the art of listening. Tucked into the rolling hills of South Styria, one of Austria's most breathtaking wine regions, this Pinot Noir is proof that elegance doesn't need volume. Forget the big, brooding Burgundies. This is Pinot with an alpine soul: fresh, precise, and quietly unforgettable.
Appearance: Translucent ruby with a delicate garnet rim, the kind of color that looks like late afternoon light through a glass.
Winemaking & Aging: Hand-harvested from Neumeister's estate vineyards on the volcanic slopes of Südsteiermark, the grapes are fermented with natural yeasts and aged in a combination of large oak casks and smaller barrels. Minimal intervention lets the terroir speak without interference.
Country / Region / Grapes / ABV: Austria / Südsteiermark / 100% Pinot Noir / ~13% ABV
Tasting Note: Red cherry, wild strawberry, and dried rose petals lead the way, followed by a savory whisper of forest floor and a flinty mineral finish. The acidity is bright and lively, the tannins are silky, and the finish is long and refreshing. Exactly what great Pinot should feel like.
Primary Flavors: Red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose, forest floor, mineral
Food Pairing: Pan-seared salmon, mushroom risotto, roasted duck breast, or a good cheese board. Also: just a quiet evening on its own.
Fun Fact: Styria shares its southern border with Slovenia, and the local winemakers joke that the vines don't care much about passports. The volcanic and clay-rich soils on both sides produce some of the most distinctive whites and reds in Central Europe.
