Pittnauer Mash Pitt 2022 | Gols, Burgenland, Austria

Named with a wink - part mosh pit energy, part Pittnauer family pride - Mash Pitt is an orange wine that earns its name. Made from white grapes with extended skin contact, it's textured, wild, and deeply expressive - everything you'd want from a producer who built their reputation on breaking the rules thoughtfully.

About the Producer Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer farm their estate in Gols, on the shores of Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, under their "Moreganic" philosophy - going beyond organic certification to embrace a hands-off, life-affirming approach in both vineyard and cellar. The estate is certified organic, biodynamically inspired, and deeply committed to expressing the character of its unique, pannonian terroir.

Winemaking Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, with extended skin maceration to extract color, tannin, and texture. The blend of Chardonnay, Gruner Veltliner, and Sauvignon Blanc is then aged in a 500-liter oak barrel. No fining, no filtration - just time and intention.

Country: Austria | Region: Burgenland, Neusiedlersee | Grapes: 40% Chardonnay, 40% Gruner Veltliner, 20% Sauvignon Blanc | Style: Orange Wine, Natural

Tasting Note Amber-hued and aromatic, with ripe grapefruit, dried apricot, green tea, and a hint of tangerine peel on the nose. The palate is broad and textured with gentle tannins from the skin contact, balanced by a vibrant, saline acidity. The finish is long, herbal, and satisfyingly grippy.

Primary Flavors: Grapefruit, dried apricot, green tea, tangerine peel, mineral

Food Pairing: Aged hard cheeses, charcuterie, Middle Eastern dishes, grilled octopus, roasted root vegetables

Fun Fact: The name "Mash Pitt" is a double pun: a nod to the mosh pit energy of this punchy, skin-contact wine - and a playful riff on the Pittnauer family name itself.
