Sommer Riesling Quarz 2024 | Leithaberg DAC, Burgenland, Austria
Some wines whisper. This one sends a text at 3am that just says "lemon." Grown on pure quartz soil in Burgenland, this Riesling is about as stripped back and alive as white wine gets. Feather-light at just 12% ABV, razor-sharp, and so clean and clear it practically sparkles. Scored 92 by James Suckling, organically farmed, and completely irresistible on a warm evening.
Appearance: Pale, luminous straw with silvery highlights. Crystal clear and vibrant in the glass.
Winemaking & Aging: Organically farmed (BIO certified) on quartz-rich soils in Leithaberg DAC. Classic white winemaking with minimal intervention, preserving the natural freshness and aromatic precision that quartz terroir delivers so beautifully.
Country / Region / Grapes / ABV: Austria / Leithaberg DAC, Burgenland / 100% Riesling / 12% ABV
Tasting Note: Lemon zest and white peach jump out of the glass, followed by a flinty quartz-stone minerality that runs clean and sharp through the palate. Dry, light, and incredibly focused, with a finish that feels like the best sip of mountain spring water you've ever had — with fruit.
Primary Flavors: Lemon, white peach, quartz stone, citrus blossom, mineral
Food Pairing: Oysters, ceviche, grilled sea bream, light vegetable dishes, or a simple plate of fresh mezze. Basically anything that likes a crisp, zingy white alongside it.
Fun Fact: Quartz soil is among the poorest and most challenging for vines to grow in, which is exactly why it produces such distinctive wine. The vines struggle, go deep, and the result is intense, focused fruit with a stony mineral core. Hardship never tasted this good.
