Sauvignon Blanc | South Styria, Austria

One of the great arguments for taking Austrian white wine seriously. Precise, herbal, and completely focused, Wohlmuth's Sauvignon Blanc holds its own against the finest examples from New Zealand or the Loire and does so without trying to imitate either.

About the Producer The Wohlmuth family has farmed the steep slopes of Kitzeck-Sausal in South Styria for over a century. Gerhard Wohlmuth has built the estate into one of the most respected names in Austrian white wine, known internationally for wines of exceptional precision and strong regional character. Vineyards are steep, yields are low, and cellar work is meticulous.

Winemaking Grapes are hand-harvested from hillside vineyards and cold-fermented in stainless steel to preserve aromatic freshness and intensity. The wine is aged on fine lees and bottled early to lock in the vivid, herbaceous character that defines South Styrian Sauvignon Blanc at its best.

Country: Austria | Region: South Styria | Grapes: 100% Sauvignon Blanc | Style: Dry White

Tasting Note Green pepper, gooseberry, and grapefruit on the nose, with a streak of fresh herbs running through from start to finish. The palate is dry, focused, and vivid, with a clean mineral finish and the kind of precision that makes you stop and pay attention.

Primary Flavors: Green pepper, gooseberry, grapefruit, fresh herbs, mineral

Food Pairing: Goat cheese, grilled seafood, asparagus, green salads, seared scallops

Fun Fact: South Styria is sometimes called the Tuscany of Austria for its rolling hills and dramatic scenery, but its white wines are anything but soft. Cool Alpine air keeps acidity high and aromas sharp, producing some of the most energetic Sauvignon Blancs in Europe.
